The art and architecture of minoan crete (c. 2000- 1400) {cont. } Key areas of focus: grand staircase: The column would have been made of wood, but were reconstructed out of cermet by sir evans. There is fresco decoration against the wall that would have been present through the palace. They would have been placed on top of the plastered wall. Walls would have been made out of boulder rocks with vertical and horizontal wooden beams to give it support and withstand natural disasters: ki(cid:374)g"s hall / megaro(cid:374): This area would contain the throne room, sleeping areas and most likely a separate bathing area: quee(cid:374)"s hall / megaron: Room would have been decorated with a dolphin fresco. Sa(cid:373)e set of roo(cid:373)s as i(cid:374) the ki(cid:374)"s hall (cid:894)except the thro(cid:374)e roo(cid:373)(cid:895). None of the palaces had any fortified walls. Minoan art (fresco) has a flow nature to it and is very stylized: frescoes form knossos are associated with the second palace.
