Ease of fabricaion (blow molding, extrusion, vacuum forming and others) Light weight and ease of ield seaming (fusion and ilet welds) Leachate: rainwater that trickles through landill combined with harmful chemicals and other paricles from roing waste. Problems with landills: much waste, many chemicals; risk that leachate will get into water table and contaminate water. Polymer mat placed under waste so nothing leaks under loads (apparently oten cracks) Layout: gravel layer over geomembrane; hdpe pipes within gravel; pipes perforated to collect leachate. Building construcion - barriers in walls, loor slabs, rooing. Containment liners - reservoirs, canals, industrial/ariicial ponds, Polymers must be designed so they do not react. You want it to let some water get in to ilter, just not too much - must not overdesign the membrane. High ducility to follow movements of surrounding soil without generaing lots of tensile stress. Capable of being seamed in ield so dif strips of membrane don"t leak.
