Experimental methods for studying language and space. Reference frames people use to map language and space. Ways to study mapping between language and space. Participants are shown a configuration of objects (real or pictures) and provided with an accompanying sentence. The task is to rate the acceptability of the sentence as a description of the picture using a likert-type scale. Ratings of acceptability were provided using a scale from 1 (bad) to 9 (good). When we make acceptability judgments, we need to decide which frame of reference to use. Reference frames are coordinate systems used to compute and specify the location of objects with respect to other objects. The cases when all frames of reference are in agreement are uninformative as to the frames of reference people use.
