Particular kind of reasoning that finds relations between parts of things. Retrieval: finding something in memory similar to it. Trying to understand one concept by comparing it to another. Mapping: ex: professors can be compared to high school teachers. Adaption is when you alter it to make it better. Evaluation: if its not good you might have to recreate your analogy. What kind of animal are you most like. People will normally chose animals that represent certain traits that they like to think they espouse. Create a mapping system that can transfer between both situations. Not looking specifically at what the objects are. When making a mapping, you map them on their relationship and structure not on literal similarity. At first thought it was a vortex in an ether. This cause centrifugal force and the magnets got closer together. Transferred idea of gear system to physics theory. Thought that maybe there was tiny vortex in between the two bigger ones.
