CGSC 1001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Reductionism, Observational Learning
Document Summary
The cognitive level: sociological level: targets groups, culture learns something. Learning at the psychological level: when a person/animal learns something on its own, might notice after eating certain good, people get sick, observational learning. Learning at the biological level: synapses are the spaces between neurons where communication happens, get more efficient with repeated use, associations are learned when neutrons fire together. Learning at the chemical level: synaptic changes in taste receptors to tolerate bitter foods, children vomit when eating some bitter foods that adults enjoy, happens because of synaptic changes, dopamine makes you recognize patterns, motivation. Learning at the physical level: not a good level of description of learning, believed that quantum effects are related to consciousness. Level is legitimate if it can successfully make casual predictions using ontology of that level: ontology: a set of things said to exist.
