Cdns 2400 lecture 1 + 2 notes. Idenify and explain concept of heritage values in buildings, landscapes, etc. Develop judgement on conservaion issues and understand values inherent to judgements. Commemoraion to celebrate the memory of someone/place of the past. Heritage values values of building/area/community that relate not only to form and architectural design, but how it"s used. Values relate to stories connected to heritage place. Carleton has recognized that they are on algonquin territory. Levels of signiicance: can be recognized/ designated by municipaliies, councils/ministries, the country, etc. World heritage list: sites must be of outstanding universal value and meet at least 1 of 10 selecion criteria. *rideau canal was chosen for the following two criteria: (1) represents masterpiece of human genius (2) outstanding example of type of building, architectural or technological ensemble or landscape which illustrates signiicant stages in human history. Built primarily for strategic military purposes when britain & us vied for control of region.
