Document Summary

We are starting with: how we classify biodiversity in the light of evolutionary biology= systematics & evolutionary trees. Earth is 4. 5 billion years old, big bang theory. We don"t know the formula to create life but in labs we can create life in certain circumstances. Earliest evidence of life are from fossils, 3. 5 billion years old fossils of stromatolites. They are rocks built by bacteria, they built reefs (similar to corals). When you cut them, they show a pattern of the layering of the minerals. The issue of fossils is that you know the earliest evidence is fossils but there has to have been more stuff before then cuz they created fossils. Pic: in australia, the water is really salty and it"s one of two places on earth where stromatolites are still there. The environment there is too harsh for other animals to live in, so that"s why stromatolites are still there (animals would"ve eaten them then).
