Language foods can be signs & symbols; communication; food as a metaphor (e. g. sweet or spicy ) Social relations how does eating together & making food together form social relations b/w ourselves and our families, and b/w ourselves and our cultures. The body creates our body; essential for bodies and for self-image/self-identity. Has to do w/ identity-construction who we are & who we are in relation to other people. Subsistence livelihoods: subsistence economies are non-monetary, rely on natural resources, have minimal surplus.
