Half a yellow sun (the film)- adaptation from novel by chimamanda adichie. Themes: gender, culture, post colonial conflict, message of perseverance: life goes on for many, despite the war and hardships. Main characters: olanna, kainene, odenigbo: olanna (twin sister of kainene) Decides to go to nsukka to teach sociology. Goes to visit her uncle and his family in kano. Sleeps with richard churchill partly as a reaction of feeling hurt by odenigbo. Foreshadowing: she was so helpless, it was as if i know her [about amala"s baby] **there seems to always be an impending doom of africa. At times not practical- wanted fresh flowers at her wedding. Her easy-going manner becomes very tense and high-strung as time progresses. She becomes more practical/snaps out of la-la-land: kainene (twin sister of olanna) Is going to port harcourt to take over their father"s business. Takes a liking to richard churchill, despite richard having a wife.
