Critical thinking is the systematic evaluation of arguments through careful thinking that helps us move forward in a continual search to improve our opinions, decisions, and judgments (p. 21) Ultimately, value of you as sport manager is ability to assess, understand, analyze, adapt. Key to this: ability to collect right information, knowledge of how it is used/analyzed. This critical thinking, analysis, informs management decision-making, effectiveness & efficiency, strategy, and knowledge development . Starting point: problem/issue/opportunity identification, and research question design. Methods, design: fit with research question, information desired/required. Sport management research: key concepts: ways of knowing: how we know what we (think we) know. People assume that a fact is true because people have always believed it to be true, even through evidence may exist to the contrary. A person knows that something is right because someone with expertise has said that it is.
