Rodriguez vs. canada (1993: sue rodriguez, 42, als (ice bucket challenge, section 241(b) (canadian criminal code) Everyone who : aids or abets a person to commit suicide, whether suicide ensues or not, is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fourteen years. S 241(b) violates s. 7, 12 &15 of canadian charter of rights and freedoms. S. 7: everyone has the right to life, liberty & security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice. Cited norm in other western democracies: other jurisdictions. Blanket prohibition on assisted suicide maintained: broad, does enough to protect people & the harm is worth it for the benefit of vulnerable people on the widespread aspect. Rodriguez argued discrimination against disabled persons deprived right to choose suicide. Decision rejecting appeal rendered september 30th, 1993. Rodriguez died by assisted suicide february 12th, 1994 no charges were.
