Huge body of sociological theory, daing from 19th century. Diferent school of thought ex) marxism, feminism, funcionalism. Society restrains the beast, making social order possible. Funcionalist say we are all animals and barbaric, unless we are socialized controlled. If it is fair and all contribuions are valued. Straiicaion is funcional: eicient division on labour; moivaion for hard work. People will accept funcionalism if it is fair. How is order maintained in diferent types of socieies. Diferent divisions of labor produce diferent kinds of solidarity (cohesiveness) A force that has tremendous power over us. Community arouses the sense of the divine god symbolises the feeling of community.
