Document Summary
According to evolutionary psychologists, there are constraints on how much *and in what ways) people"s behaviour can be changed > people possess evolved tendencies to show certain kinds of behaviours in certain situations. Despite a great deal of flexibility in human behaviour, these tendencies can"t easily be changed. Examples involve many domains (which we"ll examine throughout this course) i. e how people parent, things like religious beliefs, political attitudes. Tinbergen"s four questions about behaviour: cause: underlying mechanisms, development: change across lifespans, function: role in survival, reproduction, evolution: change across generations. These 4 questions are not in conflict or competing with each other, need all four for full understanding of behaviour. In evolutionary psychology, the focus is on 3 & 4, but there is till some attention to 1 & 2. History of ep (not being tested on this) 18th and early 19th century c: early ideas about evolution. 1859: evolution by natural selection: darwin and wallace.
