Psychology is the study of ourselves (cid:1) (cid:1) Its how we think, feel, develop, love, learn & grow. Descartes suggested that: the mind and body were distinct entities that were casually controlled movements of the mechanical body and in turn received info about the outside world through the sense of organs. This dualistic view became the influential to the work of psychologists. Muller: proposed that like an electric current flowing along a metal conductor, messages transmitted by nerves were coded as electrical impulses that travel along diff channels. Hemholtz: measured the speed , found them to travel at about 90 ft/ sec. Depression as a case study to illustrate how understanding mechanisms and treatment of depression have been approached by multiple levels of analysis/ perspectives. -psychological analysis: most intuitive level to approach an understanding of human thought and behavior how do thoughts. -biological analysis: focus on psychological mechanisms that underline thought.
