History is what a historian articulates about her subject matter (pg 45) You need to set aside all of your biases when doing research. Two very different views about the genesis of wada. Notice the way sport, and the way people value it, and who does (or does not) participate, reflects various social forces. There are specific social forces that effected the form of sport, the way people value the sport, and who is allowed to play. Industrialization and urbanization is a big factor as to how sport became big in canada. Amateurism- 1) class consciousness and racist desire to exclude; 2) the belief that sport could be an important arena in which to school young men and (sometimes) women in a set of rational and positive cultural values.
