There are specific social forces that effected the form of sport, the way people value the sport, and who is allowed to play. Industrialization and urbanization is a big factor as to how sport became big in canada. Amateurism- 1) class consciousness and racist desire to exclude; 2) the belief that sport could be an important arena in which to school young men and (sometimes) women in a set of rational and positive cultural values.
