Arche: what is the origin of everything. They were reliant on reason, on simply sitting down and trying to figure things oit rationally. Fought in the war between athens and sparta for 27 years. He walked around athens barefoot no matter the weather. He was considered to be rather eccentric, standing there for hours upon hours, and when the lights turn off, walking away. He was a lifelong democratic, but was not an aristocrat. His wife was called xanthippe, and is known as a great shrewd. He was not interested in science, nor physics, or even metaphysics. He was interested in the internal workings of humans; he wanted to understand their actions and values. He believed that the most important questions to ask oneself were ethical questions, moral questions, not factual one"s. Socrates"s philosophy is nothing more than a moral philosophy. Happiness that does not depend on external things.
