Carol leigh: law has been used to regulate elements of prostitution. Selling sex isn"t illegal, it"s the aspects surrounding it that are illegal: seen as a threat to social norms and morals. It is both like and unlike other forms of labour. Sex work and labour: sex work and the exotic entertainment industry does not fit easily into existing labour theory. Labour theory has not attended to the nuisances of the industry: often marginalized form of labour; regulated in some aspects, criminalized in other, subject to moral condemnation. Lecture #2: conversely; the industry, its workers are part of canadian society and economy, sex industry is impacted by market and labour trends, example: growth of the service sector in the 1970"s and 1980"s impacted sex industry.
