LING 3P97 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Pseudoword, Audiometer, Flashlight
Document Summary
We don"t hear isolated pure tones in every day environments. Pure tone audiogram is not the same as speech communication. We can still make good predictions based on the pure tones yep this person will do well with these frequencies and not with those but still want to do speech testing to confirm this. Threshold to speech should be similar to pure tone average. : to determine if they need hearing aids; some mild hearing loss have trouble hearing speech and some with mild hearing loss cant understand speech just fine. Aided vs unaided: some of this is to show that aids actually help them (for adults who are resistant to the aids: show they what they can hear with an without them) Quiet vs noise: some people will do great with speech perception at home but do bad when they go out of home (noise); can test with noise.
