Commissural: allow communication between the two hemispheres o corpus callosum, anterior commissure, posterior commissure. Association: the fiber tracts that allow communication from within a single hemisphere. I. e. communication between broca"s and wernicke"s: arcuate (or superior longitudinal) fasciculus, inferior longitudinal fasciculus, uncinate fasciculus. Corticospinal tracts, corticobulbar tracts,(related to eating) corticothalamic tracts o o. Corticobulbar go across all three parts of brainstem. Corticospinal crosses over at the medulla at the spinal cord level. Found in the white matter, not gray matter. Projection: o posterior column-medial lemniscal tracts >> fine touch, joint position, vibration: anterolateral tracts: pain, temperature, "crude" touch. The striatum: caudate nucleus, putamen: globus pallidus o o. Thalamus: egg shaped nucleus, subcortical gray matter o o. "relay" station for all sensory information (except smell) on way to somatosensory cortex. Cerebellum: part of the brain"s control circuitry o o. Responsible for co-ordination of: fine motor control, skilled movements. Inhibition of involuntary movements: intention tremors, over- and under- shooting, dysmetria o.
