Rule out impairments associated with general development and geneics: ex. Rule out clet palate/lip, hearing loss, paralysis of palate/velum. Rule out known impairments of structure and/or funcion. Idenify nature and severity of speech sound disorder. Some people may not be aware of the importance of the quesions or understand the quesion fully/terminology: complete hearing screening. 20 db at 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 hz some people may have been trained to do hearing screenings- public health nurses, doctors- may not be well trained- results may not be accurate: complete language screening. Phonological awareness: complete oral peripheral examinaion (ope) **use gloves, lashlight, tongue depressors. Document if there are any abnormaliies of the teeth that may be afecing ariculaion. Some dental/palatal features go along with some syndromes. Structure and funcion of lips, lower jaw, tongue and sot palate. Ask child to complete diadochokineic and other maximum performance tasks. Say ahhh for as long as you can.
