Document Summary

Nov 5 3 research questions due thru sakai (address most important parts of presentation) Id 2 structures at 18 stations: ex. Id the gyrus, id the specific part of the brainstem, etc: 19 fill in black/t/f q"s (fxns mostly) So far, we have covered reflexive movements spinal cord, musc contraction/movt, sensory receptors, sensory consequence of movt. Voluntary movements require additional processing (above the level of the spinal cord) Specific areas in s1 receive sensory info for different areas of body. Some body parts take up bigger space in s1: ex. Homunculus little man represents the size representation of different body parts. Leg regions towards midline, head regions towards lateral aspect. Fingers, thumbs, lips, feet take up more areas: any body part that requires greater processing of sensory info (greater sensitivity) has more neurons and therefore takes up more space in s1. Damage to certain areas of s1 will effect processing to certain body parts.
