Varies with age, sex, race, education and several other variables. Sustained hypertension has a damaging impact in blood vessels of kidney, heart and brain. It leads to an increase in: renal failure, coronary disease, heart failure, stroke, dementia. An effective pharmacological management leads to reduction in blood pressure. Unfortunately, less than one half of those living with hypertension reach a good control of their hypertension.
