Medical industrial complex: private and public industries that contribute to the health sector: small family run operation (privately owned pharmacies) to big companies. The evolution of the social organization of health care: bedside medicine (allopathic) Physicians were not dominant health care providers. There were many types of professions and types of help provided: hospital medicine. Changed the focus/direction of the partitioners towards the patients. Look at organs and diseases inside the patient and not the patient itself. Took hundreds of years to transition to todays medicine. Last stop before dying, not safe place to be (disease, unsanitized) Manly poor people that went to these hospitals. Transitioned to places of medical technology and knowledge. Physicians were encouraged to practice medicine and at hospital through the idea of specialization and further medical knowledge. Become a place where you would receive good treatment.
