Coxal bone consists of fused: ischium, ilium, pubis. 2 hip bones sacrum coccyx greater pelvis: left to right iliac crest lesser pelvis: left to right ischial spine. Pelvic spaces inlet: superior space between the brim of each coxal bone outlet: inferior space between the ischial spines, symphysis and coccyx. Related to childbearing: enlarged pelvic outlet, laterally projecting ilia, less curvature of the sacrum and coccyx, wider pelvic inlet/outlet, broader pubic angle. Consists of: femur, patella, tibia, fibula, tarsal & metatarsal, phalanges. Distally articulates with the tibia at the knee joint. Proximally the round head articulates with the pelvis at the acetabulum. Stabilizing ligament attaches at the femoral head in the depression called the fovea. Anterior surface is rough for tendon attachment. Posterior surface has concave facets for the femoral condyles.
