The ability of a system to continue to do what it was designed to do. To provide fresh air and clean water. Food security is the physical and economic access by all people in a society at all times to enough culturally and nutritionally appropriate food for a healthy and active lifestyle. The practice, process or system cannot go on indefinitely because it is destroying the very conditions on which it depends. Within the practice, process or system, there are internal contradictions that will lead to its breakdown sooner or later. Food the past 5-6 decades, food systems (of developed countries) have been sustained by: Clearing indigenous plants and trees (and their associated flora and fauna) from larger and larger swaths of land. Farming a single species of plant (or animal) with highly mechanized processes, no crop rotation, and no variation on commodity from year to year.
