Tumor suppressor genes stop gene division (can stop oncogenes) oncogenes- cause cell to divide without signal. Cancer can arise from almost any cell (over 200 kinds of cancer)(uk) Leukemia - blood cells that grow in bone marrow. Angiogenesis, the system which a tumor uses to tell the body to give it nutrients. Metastasis, when tumors break off from original tumor to spread to other bodies. Some die from antibodies, or lack of nutrients or by bumping into the vessel wall. Apoptosis, when a cell destroys itself when it realizes there is a problem, cancer loses this. Epidemiology, who gets sick, why did they get sick, where. Low/medium hdi is lower than high hdi countries. More male youth get cancer, then girls. 2/5 will develop cancer in canada 1/4 will die. Lung cancer is the leading cause of death in canadians. Breast cancer is leading cancer in women. Lung and bronchiole cancer is leading cancer in men.
