Alternative medicine: a particular therapy that is used in place of conventional treatment. Example- eating a certain diet to treat cancer instead of undergoing surgery, radiation or chemotherapy. Complementary: a particular therapy is used together with conventional treatment. Example- using aromatherapy to decrease a patient"s discomfort after surgery. Chiropractic: life giving energy flows through the spine via the nervous system. Acupuncture and acupressure: insertion of fine needles or applying pressure to enable flow and restore equilibrium. Naturopathy: illness results from violations of natural principles of life use of substances and forces found in nature to return to a purified state. Quality and safety can be questionable depending on the technique/type . More research has come out in this area in the past 5 years. Certain individuals tend to be high users of cam hiv, cancer.
