The plotline of katherine and petruccio overshadows the plot line between lucentio and bianca. Shakespeare has combined two different traditions and types of genre. Full of physical humour and wild and wacky use of physical language. Petruccio embarks on a silly seemingly impossible task, he is an absurd silly comic hero and he succeeds and surprises everyone. Hortensio and gramio consider a completely impossible task is nothing for petruccio"s enormous comic ego. Act 1. 2 line of 195 repetition of i. Farcical comedy full of physical humour and clowning. The first stars in the english theater were clowns: characters are virtually indestructible, they don"t die from the physical abuse and they learn nothing from it which is why we can laugh at them. Bianca and lucentio: new comedy comic drama that takes from its models- shakespeare takes this subplot from an earlier italian play supposes . This tradition of comedy is newer and contrasts to the original farcical comedy.
