Irony: parody, satire, differing parody vs satire, how these different forms of humour construct a certain idea of who we are, defamilization (vs. familiarization) Comedy performs the role of defamiliarization and familiarising, laugher is a means of coming to know something; making it familiar and strange. Having a particular way of seeing something reveals its character. Comedy as subversion (does it undermine people in power) or maintenance. Comedy allows us to reflect on the world and play with representations of the world. Is there a particular canadian comedy style that tells us who we are: state-celebrity. Talking about rick mercer has become a state-celebrity; someone who becomes a celebrity on behalf of and a part of the state. The cbc funnels comedy into a canadian" framework : cbc creates its own brand of nationalistic humour.
