The reformation (1517) protestantism encourages literacy and individualism. Martin luther is the man behind the reformation. Martin luther got cheesed and nailed 95 theses against the door of the church. Martin luther translated the bible so more people can read it. Asked for indulgences (pay money to church = sins forgiven) Actually used so corrupt members of the church can have mistresses. Result: those who further others, further themselves.
