Your subject of study determines what is primary data and what is secondary. The format of the data is not important. Primary data = copy of the song itself. Most research articles and text books assigned for courses are secondary data. Other types of documents that fall into this category: documentary films, tv/radio programs, curated museum exhibits, websites. Literature review: a systematic and comprehensive assessment of the secondary data on a specific subject.
