This week (sept 26- september30) think about zeus" plan to secure himself as supreme god differs from the attempts of his father and grandfather. Greek creation: the old gods are incredibly fertile, things erupt and grow in multiple ways. No good or bad just necessary: only with gaia do we see a real attempt to control this through thought action. Titans: over-reachers , ouranos gave them this name. Kronos / saturn: in roman myth, saturn is seen as a jolly old man, kronos is less friendly, saturn is not kronos but they are not the same, they are associated. Near the summer solstice ( ancient greek new year) A festival of saturn at the winter solstice (c. dec 21. ) Kronos/saturn was associated with a golden age of plenty and ease. The titans show this much more than the earlier gods. Kronos took the form of a horse for this affair.
