Chys 2p35 lecture 10: autism spectrum: severe autism asperger"s (struggles with social awareness/role. Social awareness: gaze & smile mismatch (babies should make eye contact, babble, etc. ; babies with autism don"t do that- lack of reciprocity: lack of babbling, lack of reciprocity, dysfunctional attachment patterns, perspective taking. Co-morbidity: other behavior and physical problems are common, high comorbidity, lots going on! Asperger"s syndrome: in dsm4 it was a distinct category; in dsm5 it is not, far right of the spectrum, children with asperger"s do not experience intellectual or language impairments, primary characteristic is social impairments. The rosie project: about a professor with asperger"s. Prevalence steadily increasing: males 3:1 versus females. 2010: 1 in 68: large jump in the last 10 years. Autism and vaccines: pharmaceutical companies that produced the vaccine were callously risking and sacrificing helpless children in pursuit of profit.
