Characterized by impairments in: often times iq are below 70"s and it"s a very real thing in kids with autism (below the average) Lack of social engagement , lack of the ability to interact this is what truly defines autism. Social awareness people can be very empathetic or not empathetic at all is important to engage with people. Kids with autism don"t have that notion of social engagement. In the majority of cases there is intellectual impairment (iq = 70>) and interests. Social awareness it starts vey early at about 7-8 months kids start to engage and interact with adults normal kids will answer back to the babbling kids with autism cannot do that. Lots of stuff going on- co-morbidity is very high. Issues with number of cells, branching, migration. Reduced activity in frontal lobes, limbic system, amygdala.
