BIOL 2P05 Lecture Notes - Lecture 31: Haplotype, Neanderthal Genome Project, Mitochondrial Eve
Document Summary
Pre-modern hominins h. ergaster, h. erectus, and h. heeidelbergensis expanded from africa throughout europe and asia. Multiregional hypothesis: homo ergaster emerges in africa, colonized multiple regions of the globe. Spril 4th, 2018: modest gene flow prevents branching speciation, gradually these populations evolve into h. sapiens current differences between modern populations have their origin in geographic separation and have been maintained for millions of years. H. sapien evolves from h. heidelbergensis in africa ~ 200,000 ya. H. sapiens spreads worldwide and replaces other homini. Initial wave of h. ergaster leaves africaa ~2mya. Differences among non-african human population cannot predate most recent migration out of africa. Successive tool making technologies arose in africa nd spread in consecutive waves. Fossil evidence suggests gradual divergence of the pre-modern homo species in their various locations. Greater mtdna diversity within africa than in rest of the world. Mitochondrial eve --> all of the current mitochondrial dna can be traced back to one woman at one point.
