31 views3 pages

Document Summary

Hyperplasia: is an increased rate of cell division. Dysplasia: is an abnormal change in the shape of the cell. Invasiveness: is the invasion of normal tissues by cancerous cells. Angiogenesis: is the growth of blood vessels into a tumour. Human embryonic development requires lots of cell division, blood vessel development, cell migration, cell death and tissue invasion. These processes are tightly controlled by genes. Cancer is characterized by abnormal use of these processes due, as well shall see, to mutation of the genes that are required. One of the possible outcomes of living long is cancer. Linear vs. exponential response- refer to graph figure 3. 1. Probability does change with age, as you get older the probability you getting cancer increase. That is why the graph is exponential, the probability is not constant. Not a single event but more than one events. Graph would be linear if the probability for every age stayed constant.
