Planning leads to hard work for long periods (persistence). Planning encourages thinking of better ways for employees to do their job. Companies (& people) with plans have higher profits than companies (& people) without plans. Downfalls of planning: can impede change & prevent adaption, can create false sense of security, detachment of planners, need to be familiar with daily details of businesses. The components of planning: setting goals, developing commitment, developing action plans, tracking progress, maintaining flexibility. To direct behaviour, goals must be specific & challenging, otherwise known as s. m. a. r. t. goals: s specific, m measurable, a attainable, r results-oriented, t time-bound. If (cid:449)orkers do(cid:374)"t (cid:272)are a(cid:271)out a goal, the(cid:374) the goal (cid:449)ill not encourage them to work harder or smarter.
