Document Summary

A lot of big companies know and us the theories around changing attitude to get you to buy their products. Attitudes: positive or negative feelings towards people, objects, places, etc. Attitudes can be made up of three components: cognitive (belief), affective (emotions), behavioural. Not all attitudes will have three components but a lot will. Your attitude towards how to make a good sandwich will consist of the cognitive component and the behavioural component. There is not likely to be an affective component. Attitudes are not excellent predictors of behaviour. There are a certain number of factors that have been identified as changing the strength the relationship between attitudes and behaviour. Attitude accessibility: how often do you think about engaging in this activity (for example, recycling). The more you think about it, the more likely it is that you will do it. Attitude strength: how strongly you believe in something (ex, how strongly do you think that recycling is important?)
