Pacific: germans knew they would lose their colonial possessions, british did most of conquering most of germany"s overseas empire, contributions from. French, belgium and british: british empire poured very substantial resources into these campaigns, territorial gains were not inconsiderable, cost was also very high. Used these islands as post-war naval bases, helped to establish japan as major regional power in north pacific after the war: german port at tsingato (china) captured by japan germans had a massive brewery. Only about 4000 german defeners in tsingato but held out for two months. Japanese had to give gain back to chinese: new zealand takes german samoa, australia takes n. e. Africa: four german colonies, german possession of togoland taken by allies in 1914. Where british soldiers fired first shots of wwi hours after war was declared, sailed into harbour and began blasting at everything in sight: role of askaris in african campaigns african troops fighting for european imperial powers.
