Document Summary

If doing something results in a good consequence, people tend to repeat it. If doing something results in an unpleasant consequence, people tend to avoid it. However sometimes people respond differently to the same reinforcement. Also sometimes people are unable to repeat the desirable behaviour. Increases likelihood of desirable responses in the future. Leads to future reduction in inappropriate behaviour. Rewards should meet the needs of those receiving them. Activity reinforcers = playing a game, rest: choose timing of reinforcement. Early learning: should receive continuous and immediate reinforcement. Learned skill: intermittent and immediate reinforcement: reward appropriate behaviours. Feedback that is sincere and contingent on behaviour. Levels of pro ciency that can be achieved. Drawbacks of punishment: can be degrading or shame producing, arouse fear of failure, can act as reinforcer for the unwanted behaviour, can create an unpleasant aversive learning environment. Allows athletes to have an input in making up punishments. Don"t use physical activity as a punishment.
