Document Summary
Reasons for helping someone: easy conscience, feeling good. Why people don(cid:1685)t help: apathy, some believe is a personality trait. Theory of unresponsive bystander: several processes (in combination) may contribute to inhibition of prosocial behaviour, diffusion of responsibility, single bystander feels responsibility is focused on him/her, with others present bystanders feel less responsibility. Inclusive of 2 fitness(cid:1685)s: direct fitness: value of own individual reproductive success. Why do we help non relatives: norm of reciprocity, expecting those who we help to help us in future, people should not hurt those who have helped us. Can motivate us to do something helpful to repair a relationship: sadness: feeling sad can cause us to do nothing! (not help) Prosocial personality: set of personality attributes that contribute to willingness to help others, empathy, social responsibility. Internal locus of control: strong situational pressures dominate personality influences, when situational pressures are weak, personality attributes are more influential.
