FNSC2200 Lecture 2: L2 Fingerprints
Document Summary
Describe the types of prints that may be found in cs p4 friction ridges. Fr are ridges on fingertips that are parallel locally, separated by sulci / furrows on epidermis. Friction skin components: eccrine glands, epidermis, dermis. Crossover p13 identification by using national automated fingerprint identification. System (nafis) helps: general latent print comparison, npc, deceased identification, immigration, biometric authentication p14 mummification. Concept: moisture content of tissue < bacterial putrefaction threshold. Abrading fingers = scraped fingers = temporary flattens the friction ridges. Reproduction of surface of plantar/palmar friction ridges on a surface. Permanence + uniqueness = fundamental premises that form fr identification. P20 fingerprint alterations: transplanted from feet, bitten fingers, fingers burned by acid, stitched fingers. 3 uses of fingerprint: deceased, immigration, electronic security. A viable fingerprint: sufficient perspiration/ contaminate transferred, surface does not destroy fp, perspiration persists long enough to be discovered.
