ANHB1102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Straight Arterioles Of Kidney, Nephron, Renal Medulla
Document Summary
Visceral layer = podocytes (wrap around capillaries of glomerulus) Capsular space = separates the 2 layers. Vascular pole = afferent arteriole enters the corpuscle and efferent arteriole leaves. Urinary pole = opposite side of the corpuscle where the renal tubule begins. Small solutes pass through, red blood cells etc. stay in capillaries. Endothelium of capillaries, basement membrane, ltration slits between podocyte cell extensions (pedicels). Damage = spaces enlarge so large molecules may pass through = kidney infections and trauma - allows protein or blood cells to enter ltrate eg. proteinuria is presence of protein in urine, hematuria is presence of blood. If gfr is too high - uid ows through renal tubes to rapidly to be absorbed so urine rises and dehydration occurs. If gfr is too low - wastes reabsorbed = azotemia. Gfr controlled by renal auto-regulation, sympathetic control, hormonal control. Passive and active transport of electrolyte w water (obligatory water reabsorption)
