Document Summary

Upper and lower esophageal sphincter are found on either ends: Upper: when pharyngeal muscles contract, forms uos. Voluntary, adaptation to move food past airway quickly. 2 phases: buccal phase = voluntary in mouth, pharyngoesophageal phase = involuntary peristalsis. Oft palate: (cid:272)loses off np so that food does(cid:374)"t go (cid:271)a(cid:272)k up (cid:374)ose. Chewing: tongue presses food against hard palate, force it into oropharynx. Involuntary reflex due to stretching of smooth muscle (stretch receptors) Celiac trunk = (cranial) stomach, venous return from stomach to hpv to liver. To rmb: celiac trunk, superior mesenteric artery, inferior mesenteric artery (outer) longitudinal (middle) circular muscle (inner) oblique muscle all in different directions. 3 layers of muscularis externa: muscle thus can churn and stretch. Pyloric sphincter between stomach and duodenum sphincter formed by enlargement of inner circular layer (muscularis externa) sphincter open/close. Epithelium dips down into mucosa = forming gastric glands, that are lined with cells that secrete gastric juice.
