Document Summary

Testes - formed near kidneys (descend to external at 28weeks). guided by gubernaculum. Undescended=cryptorchidism (infertility bc too high temp so no spermatogenesis). Cremaster muscle and dartos muscle control how externalised based on external environ temp. Pampiniform plexus - network of veins that take heat from warm blooded artery going into the testes. 1 seminiferous tubule per lobe. contents unloaded to rate testis and enters efferent ductules which deposits sperm into epididymis which leads to the vas deferens. Gamete production = occurs in seminiferous tubules. germ cells form sperm, sertoli cells support (nutrients and wastes) and protect (blood-testis barrier) developing sperm (more elongated nuclei). Androgen secretion (testosterone) = produced by interstitial tissue. 2-6day passage. sperm maturation here (gain motility, metabolic changes to gain fuel for motility, cell membrane changes), storage and transport. Development is all androgen (testosterone) dependent. vas deferens - long thick smooth muscular tube. Vasectomy (sterilisation - occurs here) so takes a while to come into full affect.
