Darwin galapagos and verdi islands were v far away, very diff plants and animals but similar environments. Galapagos were similar to animals on coast of south america. Animals from verdi were similar to areas surrounding that. Noticed similarities in fossils in areas geographically distant from one another. Nches were derived from one ancestor arriving from the mainland to populate and diversify across the islands evolved into different populations (called this descent with modi cation). The accumulation of many small incremental changes over very long periods of time causes eventual large differences in anatomical traits of different species".
