Not just the actual act: need to consider the outcome of the act, fear-inducing to the average person if someone were to be threatened by the act. No easy checklist that provides valid outcomes: socially desirable answers. Gold standard gives you structre for your judgment. Relies on clinical expertise: as well as research, what does the research say about the person in front of you and what they are saying, are they likely to play out some sort of act of violence. 20 items: gathering information and applying a rating to each of the items. Makes you look at all the possible factors: comprehensive.
