31 views4 pages

Document Summary

Oedipus complex - occurs as a kind of emotionally climactic midpoint in the developmental sequence of the male child"s ever-increasing interest in pleasurable sexual activity. In the first psychosexual stages, the child"s dominant erotogenic zones are the oral and the anal areas turns into the pleasure derived from manipulation of the genital area. The pleasurable sensation produced by self-manipulation of the sexual organs is perceived by the child as connected with his relationship to his mother, displacing his earlier oral and anal interests. Phallic stage: the period during which this emotional constellation of love, jealousy, and castration fear occurs. In unconscious fantasy, the mother and penis are associated with pleasure. It"s the mother that gives the child early experiences of being held, touched, and cuddled. Mother is the first seducer/lover (in effect) Starts to want the mother to himself and the father to be away.
