We remain aware that a token"s materiality may distract us from the work itself by way of defect or the lack of any defect. We await mistake, therefore the lack of such is a distraction. The power of language to efface its material tokens and to remove our awareness of the here and now. You may also be so distracted by a book"s defects that your concentration is maintained only on the defects. In speech, thought seems able to detach itself from its material instruments. It is good to be reminded of the significance, signified by its being material, of its being. The materiality of a sign as minimal, its significance great. The sign as a signifier of its referent. "the mind can seem embodied because the body is a tacit and self-concealing structure. " You forget you have a body until it has problems, rather than a medium through which you can think.
