On thursday 19th of september 1991, erika and helmut simon from. Nuremberg were on a mountaineering holiday in the italian south tyrol. As they descended back to camp, they left their marked track. Erika and helmut found a body sticking out of the ground, and notified the local authorities. On monday 23rd of september 1991, official recovery was attempted. The authorities hacked the body out of the ice, damaging it in the process. As the body was being recovered, they realised that they found something rather unique and old, and decided to call upon the archaeologists. Archaeologists began to survey the area, in hope of finding more artefacts than the police.
